"Komödie Tap“ | Great theatre
Founded in 1960: light theatre, children’s theatre and youth theatre. The "Komödie Tap", Darmstadt’s theatre for children and light theatre was founded by Dieter Rummel as "Studio 60" in 1960. The founding of the theatre fulfilled a long held dream. Whilst training to be a forwarding merchant Dieter Rummel began learning to be an actor at evening classes. This was to sow the seeds of his idea for a theatre. Remaining loyal to both his theatre and Darmstadt Dieter Rummel is today the director, producer and principle actor.
Originally staged in the HEAG-Bühnensaal performances moved to the Justus-Liebig-Haus and from 1968 to the Ernst-Ludwig-Haus on the Mathildenhöhe. It was during this era that the name “Theater am Platanenhain“ (TAP for short) was born taking its name from the “Platanen” next to the “Hochzeitsturm” (Wedding Tower). Just four years later the theatre moved again to the "Mollerbau" that was formerly home to the Hesse state theatre. 1986 saw the final move to its present home in the “Büchnersaal”, Bessunger Straße 125. Through all these moves the theatre retained the name of "Tap". This interior courtyard of the city administration can seat an audience of 147 people.
The evening performances are a mixture of comedy and comedy drama. Performances are held on Wednesdays to Saturdays at 8.15 p.m. and on Sundays at 6 p.m. The theatre can also be booked for special performances for corporate events or family festivities on request. The “Tap“ programme changes every three to four months.
A children’s programme that runs from September to May comprises two to three Tap productions. Performances are held on Saturdays at 3.30 p.m. and Sundays at 11 a.m. Special performances for kindergartens and primary school can be arranged from Tuesdays to Fridays at 9.15 a.m. and 11 a.m. on request.
